Chicken and pork prices will increase and supplies will decrease this year due to soaring commodity costs, according to several manufacturers. Facing mounting losses, chicken and pig producers are slaughtering more animals to decrease supply and increase demand, reported The Associated Press (May 5). It now costs about $153 in feed to raise a piglet to a hog, which will only get $110 at market. In 2007, the same amount of feed cost roughly $77, reported the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (May 18).
