ON FRIDAY in the public library, Mr lain Mclntosh gave the Antiquary and History Club a fascinating talk on the Jacobite uprising of 1745.
He began by outlining the course of events from the landing of the Prince and six of his followers in September at Eriskay. From the outset, he stated, this was a near disaster because their other ship, with arms and equipment and 700 mercenaries, had been damaged by the Royal Navy and forced to return to France. Prince Charlie was joined by some 1,500 men and they marched south.
