BALLYMENA Academy teacher Andy Brown has been elected N. Ireland President of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL).
The union, which is the 12th largest in the UK, representing 160,000 members, elected Mr Brown at a Branch Meeting last Wednesday night.
Mr Brown who has in the past spoken out about the important issue of mobile phones in the classrooms, said:
"I'm delighted and honoured to have been elected to serve my Members as their President. I believe passionately in the work of ATL and of the trade union movement.
