A Ballymena GP has explained that a heroin addict overdosing after they have been off the drug for some time is a "fairly classic case".
Dr Terry Magowan spoke out after it was revealed that 20-year-old heroin addict Michael Macrory, who was found dead last Friday in Ballymena, had recently left Hydeback Young Offenders' Centre.
The Ballymena medic said when someone comes off heroin for some time they can lose some of the immunity to the drug.
He said that, as with any other addiction, people start to take increasing doses of the drug in order to get a hit.
