Correlating to United Nations Development Programmes (UNDP), world wide, Gemidriya or Village Strength, programme initiated by the UNDP office In Colombo has benefited approximately 800,000 people spread across 836 villages. Successes achieved over three years since the project commenced has now provoked lateral expansion to include a major rural development project helping conflict-affected villages in conflict areas in the North East province.
