MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Brewers designated veteran pitcher Julian Tavarez for assignment Thursday, but that doesn't mean the team is through with him.
The Brewers made the move to make room for David Riske, who came off the disabled list and pitched in the wild ninth inning of Thursday's 8-7 win over Toronto at Miller Park.
The waiver period on Tavarez runs out Monday and the Brewers are hoping he will clear waivers and take an assignment at Class AAA Nashville, where he would work as a starter.
