DURING THE COURSE OF AN AVERAGE DAY, TEACHER-LIBRARIANS TOUCH THE LIVES OF HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE IN THEIR SCHOOL COMMUNITIES: STUDENTS, TEACHERS, ADMINISTRATORS, AND PARENTS. YET, THEY RARELY STOP TO THINK ABOUT THIS OR TAKE THE TIME TO ADD UP THE EFFECT OF THEIR WORK BECAUSE THIS IS WHAT LIBRARIANS DO: THEY ASSIST OTHERS ON THE ROAD TO LEARNING.
Furthermore, the school library functions as a learning center common to all students and staff, and its physical walls are no longer barriers to learning as school librarians and districts develop extensive support through virtual libraries that are open to patrons 24/7.
