Feb. 29--Fred S. Kummer III is why San Antonio will be the next site of a posh, $43 million Adam's Mark Hotel.
Kummer, general manager of Adam's Mark in Houston, has been competing with San Antonio for three years. So a few months back, he called his father president and chief executive officer of St. Louis, Mo.-based HBE Corp. and said the Alamo City was a must for the chain's next luxury hotel.
The newest Adam's Mark will be located at 430 Soledad St. in what formerly was the tower for National Bancshares Corp.
Renovations start in two weeks and the work could take as long as 18 months, although an early-spring opening is the target.
