THE job of chief executive at ailing chain Woolworths is seen by most inretail as a poison chalice.

Once an icon of the British High Street, Woolies has been under the cosh forthe past decade as supermarkets have encroached on its markets by stockingproducts such as children's clothing, homeware, toys and CDs.

Last week its poor performance finally cost chief executive Trevor Bish-Joneshis job.

Now the retailer plans to shop for a new boss at Tesco.

It has appointed headhunter Zygos, which last year poached John Browett fromTesco to turn round the Currys to PC World group DSG International.
