Ecuador's Constituent Assembly named Diego Garcia as the country's new Attorney General Tuesday. Garcia will replace Xavier Garaicoa, who made regular headlines with his accusations against Brazilian state oil company Petrobras.

At Garaicoa's urging, Ecuador's state oil company Petroecuador recently started an investigation into allegations that Petrobras had illegally transferred part of its assets to Japanese company Teikoku (OD Apr.7,p5).

Garcia, a former school classmate of President Rafael Correa, is expected to take a less aggressive stance against foreign oil companies.
