CANBERRA, June 24 Asia Pulse - Australian defence exports can best be boosted by getting more small defence companies onto the global supply chains of big foreign companies, parliamentary secretary Greg Combet says.
Mr Combet said Australian small to medium enterprises (SMEs) were already extensively involved in defence exporting while a 2004 survey showed just one defence company with more than 100 employees exported more than 50 per cent of output.
He said that stood to reason as most of the big defence companies, especially the multinationals, set up in Australia primarily to supply the Australian Defence Force.
