A Minnesota rising star
When I shared details of the 2008 James Beard Foundation Awards in last week's Counter Intelligence, what I didn't know is that one of the evening's top winners has deep Minnesota roots. Gavin Kaysen, son of David and Nancy Kaysen of Bloomington -- and a graduate of the Academy of Holy Angels in Richfield -- was the winner of the coveted Rising Star Chef of the Year award, an honor handed to a chef age 30 or younger who displays an impressive talent and who is likely to make a significant impact on the industry in years to come.
