Israeli-Syrian Peace Talks & New French Role.

Another round of indirect peace talks between Israel and Syria on June 16 ended in Ankara with an agreement they will pursue them further in July. There were indications that direct talks would be possible, this time with France joining Turkey's mediation efforts. French President Nicolas Sarkozy has invited President Assad to a July 13 Paris summit of a proposed Mediterranean Union and thus sit on the same table with Olmert, and to join in French July 14 celebrations.
