Jun 25, 2008 (AFR Smart Investor - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Experts predict that there will be many mergers and acquisitions in Australia in the remainder of 2008. Five finance experts were consulted about this - they came from Eley Griffiths, Fortis Investment, Pengana Capital, Bell Potter and BT Investment. They noted that in mergers, most shareholders prefer a cash bid. However, a scrip bid can offer capital gains tax rollover relief. The five believe that several Australian companies may be the subject of takeover bids, including Whitehaven Coal, the ANZ Bank, ResMed, IOOF and WHK.
