Traveling Women: Narrative Visions of Early America. By Susan Clair Imbarrato. (Athens, Ohio: Ohio University Press, 2006. Pp. xiii, 254. $42.95.)
In this well-written study of women's travel narratives, the author shows that traveling in early America was not predominantly a male enterprise. On the contrary, women actively participated in the westward settlement and even joined the public literary and social discourse when they recorded their findings in travel journals and letters.
