THREE men from Dewsbury and one from Wakefield have been quizzed by police over a nationwide identity theft scam which could trigger a countrywide food poisoning scare.
Police and the Food Standards Agency swooped to arrest the men and are now warning food companies to be on the alert.
The fraudsters are alleged to have targeted small legitimate wholesale food businesses that supply meat, seafood and fruit and vegetables.
Authentic letterheads of the legitimate company are alleged to have been used and the telephone, email and fax details changed.
They then contact a genuine wholesaler/importer and place a food order with them.
