A LAST-minute decision by gardai to cancel a public party for Leaving Cert students, in case it got out of hand, has left hundreds of students disappointed.
"Party in the Park" - a drug and alcohol free event organised by Ossory Youth - was scheduled to take place in the Castle Park on Friday afternoon, but the plug was pulled on the whole thing late on Thursday evening, meaning teenagers missed out on the chance to kick up their heels and relax together after their gruelling exams.
Less than 24 hours notice was given to event organisers that the party could not go ahead, despite the fact that it had been planned for weeks and bands and DJs had been confirmed.
