Mar. 4--Led by big increases in Georgetown and Cedar Park, Williamson County communities set a record for single-family housing permits in 1995 and continued a five-year trend of taking market share from Austin.
Georgetown nearly doubled the number of permits issued in 1995, to 602. Permits issued for Cedar Park and its extraterritorial jurisdiction increased by 43 percent.
Both cities set records. In topping a 2-year-old record, Cedar Park issued nearly as many permits as Round Rock, 957, which is about twice as big. It broke a record of 679 set in 1993.
