COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--Mar. 5--Colorado Springs retailers bucked national sales trends in a big way in January, when the city's sales tax receipts increased by 12.6 percent over the same month a year ago.
Department stores, discounters, hotels and auto dealers had a strong month, but local stores selling furniture and appliances started the year with a whopping 28.5 percent increase over January 1995, according to the City Controller's Office.
