The raw materials pricing situation will continue to be "very difficult." This was the view of Peter Chaffin chief executive of Wellington Holdings plc.
One striking factor in the first half of the year, said Chaffin, was that there was "very little negotiation on price increases. People were just told, 'That's it - Now!'" Chaffin said he could not remember this happening before.
Normally, he explained, there is some room for negotiation, at least in the timing of such increases. But from Sept 1994 to July 1995, there was no leeway at all.
At Thona SA the pricing situation made things "very tough for us last year," said Joop Raeven, technical director. ...
