Virgin Mobile USA on Friday announced its intentions to acquire Helio, a struggling joint mobility effort between Korea's SK Telecom and EarthLink that offers postpaid products and services and attempts to bring the advanced cell phone features seen in Asian markets to the U.S.
The deal, which equals roughly $39 million in stock, will expand the reach of Virgin Mobile, a Warren, N.J.-based wireless communications service provider, owned by eccentric British billionaire Richard Branson's Virgin Group.
