COLUMN: RED SOX NOTES
HOUSTON - If something happens beyond balls and strikes when the Red Sox play the Rays next week, Coco Crisp won't be to blame.
Crisp's suspension was knocked down to five games yesterday by John McHale Jr., executive vice president of Major League Baseball. Those five games, however, will include the next two here and all three in Tampa Bay, which is convenient, if not coincidental.
Crisp thinks the timing of the suspension is irrelevant.
"I don't think that anything was gonna happen in Tampa," he said, "even if I played in the three games. Maybe this was done for precautionary reasons."
