Demand growth for richer and faster information fixed services now reaches the limits of the existing metallic infrastructure. This is both a huge opportunity and a high responsibility for the electronic communication sector. Fibre to the Home and Hybrid Fibre Coaxial appear as the two technologies able to bring a long-term solution to support this demand. However their roll-out has to satisfy a difficult commercial and economic equation which is complicated by the debate on access regulation.
