As the duplication/replication industry heads into 1996, memories of 1995 remain as the year that digital video on a 5-inch optical disc became a reality. Pitched battles fought throughout the year between the MultiMedia CD group, lead by Philips and Sony, and the SD Alliance headed up by Toshiba and Warner Home Video came to a final culmination when an agreement was announced in September to establish a joint format. Several months passed and as the year came to a close in late December final specifications for the new format were announced - and the long awaited DVD became Digital Versatile Disc.
As 1996 unfolds, the industry awaits new product announcements. ...
