FOSTER CITY, Calif.--(HealthWire)--March 11, 1996--Gilead Sciences, Inc. (Nasdaq: GILD) announced today that preliminary data from an independent clinical study conducted by the Studies of the Ocular Complications of AIDS (SOCA) research group demonstrated the effectiveness of VISTIDE(R) (cidofovir intravenous) for the treatment of CMV retinitis when compared to an untreated control group.
Based upon these data, enrollment of new patients in the Phase II/III study has been stopped.
