Caterpillar Inc said it plans to construct a plant in China to build small hydraulic excavators.

The US group said in a statement that it hopes to start construction on the 365,000 square foot plant in early 2009, pending governmental approval. Caterpillar did not disclose investment details.

"This facility will add to Caterpillar's growing operations in China and provide the primary manufacturing source for Caterpillar small-sized hydraulic excavators for China," Caterpillar vice president Tom Bluth said in a ...
