Colorado mutual funds that embraced oil and gas stocks and avoided the ailing financial sector fared better than average in the latest quarter.
Brian Barish, president of Cambiar Investors in Denver, fell into that camp. His Cambiar Opportunities Fund rose 4.5 percent in the second quarter with a significant chunk of its assets devoted to energy.
Barish said he fled from financial stocks last October, months before the Bear Stearns meltdown, "realizing the severity of the situation." He said he and his team continued to avoid the area, believing the fallout is likely "to last an awful long time."
