Many schools now require students to put their time and talents to work in service to others before they can graduate. There are hundreds of civic organizations out there, many of them just for kids. Here's a look at a few of the biggest: 4-H Clubs, Youth Service America, the Boy Scouts, and the Girl Scouts.

The 4-H Club began around the start of the 20th century to help children in rural places with agricultural projects. 4-H clubs emphasize learning by doing to make positive changes in the world. Today, 4-H clubs can be found in every county in every state and in about 80 countries around the world.
