FOSTER CITY, Calif.--(HealthWire)--March 12, 1996--Gilead Sciences, Inc. (Nasdaq: GILD) announced today that it has made VISTIDE(R) (cidofovir intravenous) available in France for use under an ATU Program for the treatment of relapsing cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis in patients with AIDS.

The ATU (Autorisations Temporaires d'Utilisation) nominative procedure is a temporary authorization from the French Agence du Medicament (FMA) that will make VISTIDE treatment available to patients with relapsing CMV retinitis who have failed currently available intravenous treatments.
