'Speculate to accumulate' says United chairman.

BALLYMENA United chairman Robert Cupples last night promised manager Roy Walker he will have the financial clout to compete in the transfer market this summer.

Walker has already publicly declared his interest in Linfield midfielder Conor Downey, who has been linked with a move away from Windsor Park.

But that would require a fee for a player still under contract for another year, with Linfield believed to be wanting to recoup the [pounds sterling]8,000 they paid Cliftonville for Downey.
