Athletics 6, Angels 1ANAHEIM, Calif.Rookie Greg Smith threw a four-hitter and Eric Chavez hit a two-run double as Oakland beat Los Angeles to pull within 31/2 games of the Angels in the American League West.
Smith struck out three and walked two in his second complete game in 16 major league starts. It was his first win in six starts against AL West teams.
The left-hander lost his other two outings against the Angels this season - including his first complete game in the majors April 29, when Joe Saunders and Francisco Rodriguez combined on a 2-0 victory at Anaheim.
