In recent months there have been some significant developments in the geoinformation industry on the African continent. This was picked up while monitoring news on the industry as part of my contributions to the African Geo Information Research Network (AGIRN). One of these developments is Tele Atlas, a global digital mapping provider, purchasing shares in MapIT, a South African based digital mapping company that is arguably one of the largest providers of navigational data and mapping software on the continent.
