CAN THO, Vietnam, Jun. 30, 2008 (IPS/GIN) -- Government officials are warning farmers in Vietnam's fertile Mekong Delta to be particularly vigilant about bird flu as this year's harvest season gets underway: Three new outbreaks of bird flu have already been recorded in the region since early May.
Thanks to the abundant supply of food in the Mekong Delta, which is one of the country's two main rice baskets, the region is an ideal place to raise ducks and chickens, making it one of the highest-risk areas in the country for bird flu.
