Dead man was detective on Stephanie Hammill case.

A 41-year-old man who died following a road traffic incident on Wrenthorpe Bypass on Monday was one of the lead detectives in the Stephanie Hammill case.

David Heptinstall, of Crigglestone, was driving along the A650 at around 7.55am when his car left the road and collided with the central reservation.

He was taken to Pinderfields Hospital where he later died.

The father-of-two, who was a detective sergeant with West Yorkshire Police's Crime Division, had recently been commended for the key part he played in the four-year investigation that led to the conviction of Greek national Ioannis Revenikiotis for the manslaughter of the 20-year-old travel agent last ...
