Fortune Brands Inc. is shaking up management of its spirits business as sales fail to meet expectations.

A dozen executives have left or been forced out of the Deerfield-based conglomerate's spirits division since January, an exodus that has accelerated in the past few weeks, according to several current and former employees.

People familiar with the situation estimate that about 50 of 300 marketing and corporate employees in the Jim Beam Global Spirits & Wine division have left in a reorganization that began around the start of the year.
