Planning bosses twice rejected force concerns fearing they would be deemed racist
Police concerns about a proposed gypsy encampment were twice rejected by Town Hall planning bosses because of fears they could be deemed racist.
Bedfordshire Police was one of 22 organisations consulted by Bedford Borough Council over whether to allow a development of four traveller pitches at Waiting For The Sun Farm in Bletsoe.
Concerns were raised in two letters from Chief Superintendent Andy Street that the application would, if approved, "increase the fear of crime of the existing local community".
