A CHALKSTONE estate councillor has hit out at the 'lunatics' behind the decision to close Chalkstone Post Office in Haverhill.
Councillor Gordon Cox, St Edmundsbury Council representative for the Chalkstone, spoke of his great disappointment that the branch had been closed.
Terry McNally, the chairman of Chalkstone Tenants and Residents' Association, also said it was a real shame and challenged Post Office Ltd to reconsider their actions.
"We are extremely disappointed obviously because it is central to this part of town," said Mr McNally. "There's no getting away from the fact that it's profitable and no-one can see any reason at all that it's been closed.
