Bogus boss cheats O.A.P. out of [pounds sterling]3,000.

A DOORSTEP conman took an 87-year-old woman to the bank in a taxi and persuaded her to part with more than [pounds sterling]3,000 cash.

The elderly woman was at her home in Harborough when she was visited by a man who said he was the new owner of a firm which had carried out a poor paint job at her house last year.

He told her the company owed her [pounds sterling]8,700 but that in order to receive the money she would first have to pay a further [pounds sterling]3,150 so they could re-paint her house.

A second man returned later to collect the money and took her in a taxi to the bank to withdraw it, saying he would return with the money she was owed.
