The face of one of Preston's oldest streets is to be changed forever thanks to this [pounds sterling]10 million makeover.
Shabby looking buildings on the corner on Friargate and Great Shaw Street will be knocked down and replaced with 176 student rooms.
Businesses including a takeaway, cafe and piercing parlour will all be lost to make way for the block which will have a retail outlet on the ground floor.
Today, traders on the recently-improved street, which is nearly 300 years old, said they hoped the development would bring extra customers at a time when businesses are struggling.
