Landmark to be fenced off.

A former children's home will be gated off - despite concerns over public access to a war memorial.

Yousuf Bhailok, owner of Harris Park, has won permission to install railings and gates at the front of the landmark in Fulwood, Preston.

However, the gates will be left open during office hours, cricket matches and other events held at the centre, and workers based at the Garstang Road site will be given remote controlled access.

The design and colour of the gates will be agreed with planning officers.

The work was given the green light despite one councillor, Albert Richardson (Lab), describing the railings as a "monstrosity".
