Babbitt Bearings Inc. has never had a Mr. Babbitt working there, nor a Mrs. Babbitt.

The Syracuse company founded in 1943 by Charles and Daniel Wart as a tool and die shop quickly found its niche making bearings for compressors. Those bearings are coated with a metal alloy called "babbitt."

"People driving by just think that the family name is Babbitt," said Charles Wart Jr., the company's president.

Today, the company will hold an open house for employees, their families and vendors to celebrate its 65th anniversary.
