TOKYO, July 4 Asia Pulse - An influx of workers in nonregular positions may be causing full-time staff to clock more time on the job, according to a government survey released Thursday.

More than one in five full-time male employees aged 25-44 works more than 60 hours a week, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' 2007 Labor Force Survey showed. That means these workers are putting in more than four hours of overtime a day.

"The growing number of nonregular employees may be taking a toll on the working hours of full-time staff," according to a ministry official. The term nonregular staff includes part-time, temporary and contract workers.
