Choosing the perfect shade on a paint strip makes us feel like Goldilocks: How can you tell which one is just right? Here's a better idea: Paint the insides of a few shoe boxes with shades from the strip you're considering and place each near a window. The light will cast shadows inside the boxes that mimic real room lighting, giving you a true sense of what each color will look like at different times of day.
