How not to do e-filing: the Supreme Court recently announced its intention to implement statewide e-filing in the next several years. Critics say the federal Northern District of Illinois, which requires filing both paper and electronic copies, offers an example of what not to do.

statewide e-filing is coming, says the Illinois Supreme Court--but exactly what to expect, or when, or how, remains unclear.
"A time frame...is uncertain"
In a press release issued May 23, 2008, the court announced "a wide-ranging plan to build a technological infrastructure that would link electronically all the courts in the state's 23 judicial circuits and 102 counties." Central to the plan, the release says, is "the development of an Illinois Judicial Branch portal using web-based technologies....[T]he portal would provide a central point of access to trial court information and a single system to distribute trial court data to federal and state entities."
