Unlike New Zealand, the British Government warned truckies weeks ago that it plans to impose a 5c a litre increase in diesel duty in October, followed by similar hikes in 2009 and 2010. But truckies' body, the British Freight Transport Association, is hopeful the Government will scrap the October increase. The FTA said the increase in prices was extremely difficult to manage. "If price rises continued at the present rate, then inevitably the cost of moving some goods would become prohibitive and simply not worthwhile," it said.
