PORTRUSH'S Graeme McDowell made a superb start to the European Open by opening with a seven-under-par 65.
The Ryder Cup hopeful carded an eagle and six birdies in a brilliant round at the London Golf Club on Thursday to lie just two behind leader Ross Fisher.
"It's always interesting going out chasing nine under par on the leaderboard," said McDowell.
"It was a tough day, it was windy and blustery and when I was one under through five holes I was thinking this is going to be a tough day.
"I eventually got it going and six under par through a six hole spell is always a nice way to boost a scorecard.
