Hotel owners served notice.

OWNERS of the former Grapes Hotel in Newton Stewart have been served with an order from planners to spruce the building up after councillors this week agreed the prominent landmark was an embarrassment to the town.

Westrock Developments will now be forced to paint the frontage, which is becoming black with dirt and mould, and will be made to remove old signage along with three metal joists which once held up a canopy.

Planning officer Billy Murray told Wigtown Area Regulatory Committee on Wednesday that despite several verbal assurances with the owners over the issue, no work had been undertaken and they would now be served a notice requiring its proper maintenance.
