It was the war years when Betty Reid, pictured, first stepped through the doors of Pringle after having just left Hawick High.
It wasn't her first job as she had worked in an office elsewhere for two or three weeks. But a lot of her friends worked in Pringle's, so she decided to join them.
Taking up the story, Betty said: "You did a four-year apprenticeship then, and for the first nine months you did jobs like going for the yarn and messages for the women.
"There was no canteen then and you had to run about with boiling kettles to make cups of tea as well as doing the washing up.
