GIVEN the enormity of Monday's jobs blow which left the Pringle workforce devastated, the subsequent comment from boss Douglas Fang that the firm had "strongly supported the Hawick plant over the past eight years" has quite rightly been met with much anger and incredulity.
This support has certainly not been in the shape of desperately needed financial backing for the Glebe. The dearth of investment in machinery has made it increasingly difficult for the Hawick workers to meet changing customer demands and almost impossible for them to rise to the challenges presented by the competitiveness of the knitwear industry.
