Brazilian iron ore mining giant Vale (NYSE: RIO) is looking at acquiring copper processor Caraiba Metais along with fertilizer producer Cibrafertil, both part of the Paranapanema group, Vale admitted Tuesday.
Responding to rumors that it is eyeing up the Paranapanema group as a whole, Vale said in a statement it "is not involved in any negotiation to acquire Paranapanema, as mentioned by the Brazilian media."
On the other hand, "as part of Vale's normal course of business of evaluating investment opportunities, Vale is analyzing acquiring Caraiba Metais and Cibrafertil," the statement said.
